1. How do you describe your artistic style/perspective? How do you define success as an artist? What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What are some of the most important skills you draw upon to create your work? What are some of the most significant things you've learned through art-making?
I would describe my artistic style to strive to be realistic and a hint of having some deeper meaning into each art piece. I like creating an a artwork where the viewer can be able to feel as though they are able to go through the art. Especially in a landscape, the buildings, trees, paths, or streets can allow an artwork to have dimension. For example, my pen and ink final illustrates a staircase leading to a bridge, with the shading around the bushes, bridge, and the buildings allows the art to have dimension and depth. I define success as artist is the ability to complete an artwork and to have high pleasure and satisfaction of the artwork. I find that being able to create amazing artworks and understanding the concept of art is rewarding about being an artist. Important skills that I use to create my work include using shading since it allows the art to become more realistic and have depth. I learned to shade with pencil, pen, pastel pencil, prisma colored pencils, and paint. The significant things I learned were shading with prisma colored pencils and chalk pencils. I also learned more about my creativity through art-making.

2. Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain.
The two mini lessons that I felt were the most beneficial for me to successfully complete my final project were the Candy drawing and the Fruit/Veggie chalk pastel. I was able to practice shading and mixing the colors together. Since, chalk pastel requires some patience and precision I was able to practice and learn from mistakes that I applied to my final project. I decided to choose the Candy drawing because I was really pleased with how I was able to create colors and practice shading. The colors in my candy drawing were so dull which allowed me to pick a different colored paper for the final project. I decided to choose the Fruit/Veggie chalk pastel drawing because it allowed me to work with a different colored background and was able to learn how to shade both light and dark areas. I worked well with having the color black as a background. I feel the instruction given was enough to ensure success from both these mini lessons because I had the most practice in shading and creating colors with the chalk pastel. |
3. What medium was your favorite to work with? Explain why and how you were able to master the techniques associated with this medium.
My favorite medium to work with would probably have to be the chalk pastel pencils. Even though it took me some time to grasp the concept of blending and shading with pastel pencils I was pleased to know that I can use these pencils as another material for future artworks. I enjoyed how quick the colors were able to fill the spaces on the paper and was fairly easy for me to control. I was able to master the techniques by being able to show dark and light values. For example, on the coffee cups I was able to create a dark value of purple on the sides of the coffee cups and a lighter value of purple on the front of the coffee cups. I was also able to control the pastel pencils by being very precise and trying my best not to spread or mix any important colors together. I was also able to incorporate some designs on teh coffee cups while still having dark and light values. I enjoyed working with this medium and look forward to using more of it in the future.

4. Discuss one project where you felt you were the least successful. Explain why you felt this way. What would you do differently to change this piece? Explain.
A project that I felt I was the least successful with was the printmaking project. The reason I felt the least successful with this project was the fact that it was difficult to line up the linoleum onto the previous color. It was also difficult applying the paint onto the linoleum and didn't know if you had enough or needed more. Applying the purple ink was the most difficult out of the all the colors since it was the last color I applied. If I were to redo this piece I would maybe choose a different landmark, like the other options that I researched. I would also change the color scheme of my piece to something that really reflects the landmark. I would especially add white or black as a color which will allow the piece to pop more. Overall, I learned new techniques and in the future I will use my past mistakes and knowledge to create a better piece. |
